Mae Plaid Cymru wedi ymateb i araith Theresa May yng nghynhadledd y Blaid Geidwadol, gan feirniadu methiant Prif Weinidog Prydain i grybwyll Cymru unwaith, mewn araith oedd yn llawn “ymadroddion diystyr”.

Plaid Cymru’s leader in Westminster, Liz Saville Roberts MP, said:

“The Prime Minister’s claim to be a “proud unionist” would have been better received had she mentioned Wales once in her speech.

“Welsh and British citizens don’t want to hear meaningless phrases like “the British dream” and “global Britain”, we need to hear about how the British Government will close the gap in wages between Wales and London, about how our businesses will be able to trade with the rest of the world after Brexit and about what major infrastructure the British Government will secure for Wales. Perhaps if she spent less time talking about having ideas and more time actually outlining those ideas, the British State might not have the slowest growing economy in the world.

“While the Prime Minister talks about English schools, the English NHS and English housing, people across Wales are wondering why their transport system is stuck in the Victorian age, why they get paid 35% less than their counterparts over the border and why our young people are forced to leave to find a decent job.

“The glaring absence of anything to do with Wales in the Prime Minister’s speech sums up exactly why we must not allow any claw back of responsibilities away from our own Parliament in Wales and back to Westminster. If we want to turn the fortunes of our country around, we must do it ourselves.”
